HORSEMANSHIP PROGRAMS

Creating Community through Learning Together

Our programs are designed to not only teach the horsemanship skills necessary for people to be successful working with horses; but also to develop individuals as community members.

WORKING STUDENT

Youth 10+

This is the perfect program for youth with little to no horse experience. Youth will engage in horsemanship, stable management, in-hand horse work, horsemanship theory, and "some" riding.

Please note that this is NOT A RIDING PROGRAM - youth will get to ride - but this is NOT THE FOCUS OF THIS PROGRAM.

Our current session is on Saturdays 1pm - 5pm, and runs through to the end of June.

The cost of this program is $75+HST each month. Participants are required to have their own riding helmet if they desire to participate in the mounted sessions (1x month).

ASSISTANT TRAINERS

Build on your existing riding skills, and assist Stephanie, Anne, and Selina in the training and conditioning of the herd.

This is a weekly program, where youth 12+ WITH PREVIOUS HORSE ABILITY, learn how to lounge horses, execute physiotherapy exercises with horses, learn massage techniques, and aftercare of horses.
While there "may" be riding involved - this is primarily a ground training course. Participants will need to have their own helmets (even for in-hand training), riding boots, and gloves.
The next session starts in May and will run on Wednesdays 630 - 8pm. The cost of this program is $100+HST/month.

SADDLE CLUBS

Learn the basics of riding skills

At McWatt Family Farms/Ottawa Care Farms, we believe that every rider needs to know the basics of horse care first and foremost.

We teach a balanced seat style of riding - participants will ride bareback, in an English saddle and in a Western saddle - with the emphasis being balanced riding.

Safety is paramount - both for our horses and for our participants.  The maximum weight our horses can carry is 200lbs.  Equestrian helmets must be worn - every participant is required to purchase their own.  Proper footwear must also be worn.

Saturdays 9:30am - 11:30am
